I am going to be careful to not over-hype, but what a fantastic summer for England’s youth teams. The players have proved themselves and thoroughly deserve opportunities in their first teams so that they can continue their development.

This truly is a chance for England to develop their International team on the model set by Germany,  which ultimately led to their success as World Champions in 2014.

Dennis Adeniran Scout Report

Dennis Adeniran is already on the fringes of the Fulham first team after consistently impressing at academy level. At just 18 years old, Adeniran is very tactically aware for his age and exhibits composure that is beyond his years. Fulham fans may already be familiar with him, as he became Fulham’s youngest ever goalscorer when making his debut in the EFL Cup against Leyton Orient, a record that was quickly beaten by teenage sensation Ryan Sessengon.

Adeniran is a midfielder that has featured regularly for the development team, putting in strong performances in a number of matches. Most notably, in a stop-start match against Blackburn U23’s, he scored this exceptional volley (video credit – @FulhamFC ) in the final minutes to win the game at Craven Cottage. I was fortunate enough to be in attendance at this match, it really was a fantastic strike. Continue reading

Marcus Edwards Scout Report

Midfielder Marcus Edwards, 18, is one of the hottest prospects in football. Such is his talent, the winger has already been compared to five-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi on a number of occasions. After a series of eye catching displays as part of the Tottenham academy, Marcus is currently training with the first team, getting ever closer to his breakthrough.

Marcus has developed his game to become a dangerous right-winger, with the occasional game in an attacking midfield role. The England Under-19 International is exceptionally Continue reading

Joe Rankin-Costello Scout Report

Joe Rankin-Costello

Joe Rankin-Costello has cemented a position in Blackburn’s Under-23 team and has already signed his first professional contract, aged just 17. The midfielder has gone from strength to strength since moving from Manchester United’s academy as a youth, to becoming a standout player in Blackburns’ development squad campaign. Joe has earned a reputation as a goal-scoring midfielder, completing a successful conversion from his early career as a defender.

His ability to adapt to any situation is still exhibited however, as he has played in a number of different positions for Blackburn as and when required, including full-back, holding midfielder, attacking midfielder and featuring in wide roles. Predominantly, Joe is most effective in a central midfield role where he often acts as a ‘needle player’ – seeking gaps to play the ball into the forwards during attacking play. Continue reading

Jadon Sancho Scout Report

jadon-sancho.jpgManchester City attacker Jadon Sancho has had an outstanding academy career, earning a reputation as one of the brightest prospects in English football. Sancho has already earned the opportunity to train under City manager Pep Guardiola, joining the first team in their training sessions, despite being just 16 years old. Since, he has continued to impress across a number of competitions, achieving a goal scoring ratio of almost a goal-a-game.

Aside from his impressive goal scoring record, Jadon has also registered a number of assists. It is more than a case of being in the right place at the right time, as Sancho has demonstrated an extraordinary ability to dribble past his opponents and take them out of the game. This results in a shooting opportunity for himself, or alternatively draws out another defender, creating dangerous space for his teammates. Either way, it is highly effective and has resulted in a number of goals for the City academy. Continue reading

Trent Alexander-Arnold Scout Report

Trent Alexander-Arnold 2
Trent Alexander-Arnold has burst on the scene at Liverpool FC after a series of impressive performances at U23 level. The 18 year old Englishman can operate at right-back or central midfield and is already being tipped to have a highly successful career at Liverpool. The academy graduate captained Liverpool at U16 level before progressing through to the first team.

Alexander-Arnold has a remarkable ability to read the game, making a number of key interceptions during matches and being able to anticipate play. When operating at right-back he is disciplined in his positioning, very defensively aware and Continue reading

Jacob Maddox Scout Report

Jacob Maddox 2
Midfielder Jacob Maddox has made a series of impressive performances as part of the youth setup at Chelsea FC. Playing in a number of attacking midfield positions, the England U19 International is often at the centre of high standard passing sequences around the opposition penalty area, using his trickery, creativity and vision to create chances for his team. 18 year-old Maddox has progressed to the U23 team, whilst also competing in the FA Youth Cup and EFL trophy.

Maddox has remarkable ball control and has the confidence to take on opponents 1v1 when in possession. This often results in taking players out of the game or Continue reading
