Daniel Ricciardo took his 5th race victory for Red Bull Racing (Canada 2014, Hungary 2014, Belgium 2014, Malaysia 2016, Azerbaijan 2017)
After taking his 5th Grand Prix victory, Daniel Ricciardo summarised the Azerbaijan Grand Prix perfectly in the cool-down room. This was the race we all expected last year.
It was a reference to the cities’ inagural event in 2016, where Nico Rosberg won comfortably in a race that produced little in the way of action, excitement and drama.
This years event was an entirely different story.
Unquestionably the major talking point is Sebastian Vettel ramming Lewis Hamilton moments before a safety car restart. A championship battle that had been friendly and respectful became hostile and angry in a matter of moments. Continue reading
Antonio Giovinazzi is very much in line for a seat on the grid next season, with Haas & Sauber both very real options. But could he go one step further and jump straight into a seat at Ferrari?

Dennis Adeniran is already on the fringes of the Fulham first team after consistently impressing at academy level. At just 18 years old, Adeniran is very tactically aware for his age and exhibits composure that is beyond his years. Fulham fans may already be familiar with him, as he became Fulham’s youngest ever goalscorer when making his debut in the EFL Cup against Leyton Orient, a record that was quickly beaten by teenage sensation Ryan Sessengon.
Adeniran is a midfielder that has featured regularly for the development team, putting in strong performances in a number of matches. Most notably, in a stop-start match against Blackburn U23’s, he scored this exceptional volley (video credit – @FulhamFC ) in the final minutes to win the game at Craven Cottage. I was fortunate enough to be in attendance at this match, it really was a fantastic strike. Continue reading
The Mercedes Driver Development Programme took a self-inflicted, but somewhat temporary blow over the winter. Junior drivers Pascal Wehrlein & Esteban Ocon were overlooked for Williams driver Valtteri Bottas, to replace retiring F1 champion Nico Rosberg in the silver arrows. A decision that has already been justified, with Bottas winning the Russian GP. However, with an unstable drivers market looming for the 2018 grid and beyond, can Wehrlein or Ocon make the final step in the same way that Verstappen, Ricciardo & Vettel have done at Red Bull? The dust has settled on the first round of the recently re-branded Formula 2 series and we are already fast approaching Round 2 in Barcelona, Spain. Amid the stunning performance by Charles Leclerc to win the Bahrain sprint race, it posed an intriguing question for me – who will make the final giant leap up to Formula 1, and is ‘Formula 2’ truly the best proving ground?
